Pine Haven Christian Communities announced that they will hold a community event at Kohler Memorial Theatre on April 18th, to help build community awareness of Alzheimer's disease. This event will showcase the award-winning film, "Glen Campbell - I'll Be Me," with three separate showings to help encourage as many people in the community as possible to attend. "Working in senior care, we see first-hand how many people are affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Not just those with the disease, but their loved ones and caregivers," said Lori Albsmeier, director of human resources at Pine Haven. "What's great about this movie is that it highlights how capable someone with Alzheimer's still is, and how full their life can be." The movie tells how in 2011, music legend Glen Campbell set out on an unprecedented tour across America. He thought it would last 5 weeks. Instead, it went for 151 spectacular sold out shows over a triumphant year and a half. What made this tour extraordinary was that Glen had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He was told to hang up his guitar and prepare for the inevitable. Instead, Glen and his wife went public with his diagnosis and announced that he and his family would set out on a "Goodbye Tour." This film documents their amazing journey as he and his family attempt to navigate the wildly unpredictable nature of Glen?s progressing disease using love, laughter, and music as their medicine of choice. Pine Haven will be showing this film to build awareness of Alzheimer"s disease and dementia. The event will be held at Kohler Memorial Theatre, located at 260 School Street in Kohler, Wisconsin. There is no charge to attend. Donations will be accepted at the event to help cover the cost of production rights - valued at $10 per ticket. As a public service, Pine Haven has decided to take on the costs to get this message out to the public. This will be the only showing of this award-winning film in our area for the next six months. "As a faith community, we are called to serve and encourage those entrusted to our care. The opportunity through the "I'll Be Me" presentation, allows us in a tangible way to support families, friends, and church communities with both encouragement and education," stated Pine Haven CEO, Roger Leys. "The journey of many of us who have traveled with loved ones can sometimes feel deep with despair, but we must never forget how the love of Jesus does not fail even when memories are diminished." There will be a reception with light snacks prior to each showing of the film, where guests can ask questions about dementia care. Receptions will be at 10:30am, followed by an 11:30am showing, at 2:00pm, followed by a 3:00pm showing, and at 5:30pm, followed by a 6:30 showing.
