Job Description
The Sheriff’s Department has an opening for a Correctional Assistant/Booking Clerk. This full time position has a starting salary of $15.25/hr. to $21.35/hr. based on qualifications. Booking Clerks work ten hours a day on a rotating 3-on 2-off; 3-on 2-off; 2-on 2-off schedule with every other weekend off.
 
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Booking Clerks are responsible for the processing of inmates into and out of Sheboygan County Corrections.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A Booking Clerk collects personal information relating to the inmate and the reason for their incarceration and records that data in the information management system. A Booking Clerk will collect, inventory and secure inmate personal property and maintain appropriate records. A Booking Clerk will obtain a digital image of each inmate booked into the Detention Center and record appropriate data in the information management system. A Booking Clerk is responsible for the release of inmates as directed by the Court or Department policy. A Booking Clerk will be responsible for organization and maintenance of inmate incarceration files in the information management system. A Booking Clerk is also responsible for the maintenance of the manual/paper record system and that the files are maintained in a neat orderly manner and available to correctional officers when necessary. A Booking Clerk is responsible for obtaining, inspecting, sorting, and logging all incoming and outgoing inmate mail pursuant to Department policy. A Booking Clerk is responsible for the coordination of inmate/public visitation within the Detention Facility.  These duties include identification of public visitors, scheduling of specific visitation, record keeping related to inmate visitations and control of entry and egress of the public to the visitation area. Any other duties ordered by the Sheriff or his/her designee.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Self-motivated with the ability to effectively, efficiently and entirely complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise fashion, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to be supervised. Ability to function in stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and good working relationships with co-workers and other staff. Ability to maintain regular and predictable work attendance.
