VISTA Assignment Objectives and Member Activities
Goal of the Project:
Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Nearly 20% of Wisconsin residents pay more than 50% of their family income for housing. With a growing need for affordable housing in our state, the 39 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Wisconsin are working hard to address that need by partnering with low-income families to build, rehab, or repair homes. The HFH-WI VISTA program has a goal to strengthen affiliates and increase their capacity. With passion, commitment, and hard work, our VISTA members help affiliates as they bring individuals and communities out of poverty.  Habitat for Humanity Lakeside shares the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity Lakeside and the Habitat ReStore of Sheboygan County continue to grow. Throughout our service area, the need for decent and affordable housing is significant. Our ReStore is growing beyond capacity. To help meet this need, HFHL will house 4 families and serve 6 more within the home repair project known as A Brush with Kindness, and has secured storage space for ReStore goods. To continue to build for families and maintain the success of the store, we need more volunteers both on the construction sites and in the ReStore. To get more volunteers, we need a formalized volunteer program that will positively impact the overall volunteer experience, including volunteer recruitment, marketing, tracking, scheduling, and recognition. The VISTA will research our current and past practices, develop an improved program, implement that program, and ensure the program will sustain itself moving into the future.
