DESCRIPTION:Building Inclusive Workspaces with Leslie Laster\, Associate Director for Diversity and Inclusion. \n\n \n\n\nIn her current role\, Leslie is improving educational experiences and work environments at Moraine Park Technical College as the Associate Director for Diversity and Inclusion. She leads a team that partners with HR and Talent Management to build safer\, more inclusive classrooms. She recently created a strategic statement a community engagement program. She also takes initiative to build nontraditional gender vocations\, such male social workers or female mechanics.\n\nIn addition to being a Lakeland University graduate\, Leslie worked for the University for over three years\, delivering great experiences for student athletes\, creating safer more inclusive spaces and improving the student and faculty experience.\n\nLeslie worked for the Sheboygan Area School District for ten years in two different roles\, both focused on mentoring and guiding young people. Her positions as the Alcohol\, Tobacco and Drug prevention facilitator and a counselor for Horace Mann Middle School allowed her to have direct and lasting impact on hundreds of students at a pivotal time in their youth.\n\nShe also worked for Lakeland University from 2016-2020\, serving in roles such as Director of Equity\, Engagement and Belonging and Associate Provost. In these roles she educated students\, faculty and staff on social justice issues and issues of diversity and inclusion through training and activities. She also brought awareness and celebration to minority groups and advocated for oppressed and marginalized peoples.\n\nIn addition to her many professional contributions\, Leslie serves on the Lake Country Academy School Board\, the Central High Governing Board\, and regularly volunteers at her Church. She also is a Director for the newly formed nonprofit\, the Black American Community Outreach group.
