Position Overview:

Provide teaching assistance to students within Criminal Justice courses (Law Enforcement or Corrections). Assist the lead instructor with delivery of skills and performance assessments. Designed primarily for lab situations during which students experiencing unique learning needs are able to succeed with highly individualized in-class support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

•    Provide one-on-one or small group support during class time in lab-based settings. 
•    Introduce or reinforce material or skills for the class.
•    Provide clarification of activities and support individualized skill or knowledge development during class time. 
•    Skill and knowledge development occurs under the direct supervision of the classroom instructor. 
•    Assessment support, when indicated, occurs under the direction of the College’s ADA Coordinator.
•    Communication related to the progress is relayed to the course instructor at the end of each class session. 
•    Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

Education, Experience and/or Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

•    Three year’s full-time (6,000 hours) law enforcement or corrections occupational experience is required.
•    Must be currently or previously certified as a law enforcement or corrections officer.
•    Completion of a Wisconsin Department of Justice Instructor Development Course is preferred.

• Knowledge of college organization: admission, academic regulations, programs of study and departmental regulations.
•  Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions, as well as services delivered.
•  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students, and people of diverse cultural, social, or educational backgrounds. 
•  Fluent, bilingual individual is beneficial. 
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret tactical skills directives, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, develop business correspondence, and interpret procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and answer questions from groups of students.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to encourage critical thinking.
• Beginner Level Skills: Be familiar with basic hardware; create a simple text document in Word; use and maintain voice mail; use file manager; use network file manager; use and maintain a personal calendar; navigate through Windows; access college network system; understand database concepts; send and receive attachments; access a bulletin board; navigate through the Internet; schedule meetings; use email to communicate.
• Intermediate Level Skills: Develop materials using presentation software; create reports in Word; use PowerPoint or similar presentation technology.
