Job Description
Education Specialist
20 hours per week May – October, with the addition of 100 occasional hours November - April

The Education Specialist reports to the Director of Education + Community Programming and works under the direction of the Executive Director of Bookworm Gardens.  This position assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of the Garden’s educational programming. The Education Specialist will work collaboratively with staff to create a holistic curriculum for the Gardens and nurture an innovative environment relating directly to our mission:  To enrich the mind, body and spirit of the young and young at heart through exploration in a garden environment based on children’s literature.
 
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of Bookworm’s summer camp program, including registration (Jan-March), curriculum development (March-May), and lead teaching (June-August)
  • Lead multiple field trips per week May – October
  • Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of family and youth classes / workshops (Sprouts & Seedlings Preschool Play Time) in collaboration with the Director of Education
  • Assist in the development and support of creative curricula appropriate to several age levels and abilities for use in school trips and public programs in collaboration with the education team
  • Assist with occasional weekend and after hours special events, such as the Pollinator Picnic, Fairyfolk Festival, Harvest Happenings, and Happily Haunted Gardens
  • Support the overall operations efforts of Bookworm Gardens as needed
