Welding, Maintenance, and Fab Lab Specialist

Salary Expectation: Non Exempt – $24.45 per hour (minimum)
Reports To: Dean of Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture, Automotive and Engineering
Location:  Lakeshore Technical College – Cleveland, Wisconsin
Employment and Work Schedule: 40 hours per week x 52 weeks
Monday – Friday; 7:30am – 4:00pm
Flexible day/evening/weekend hours based upon needs of the college
Oversee the operation of the welding (50%), industrial maintenance labs (25%), and the Fab Lab (25%). Promote a learning atmosphere in the labs and provide student reinforcement training and individual one on one work in the lab by assisting students in mastering the techniques of welding, bending, fabricating, robotics, troubleshooting, laser cutting, CNC milling, 3D printing, designing, and equipment and machine repair. Repair and service machinery, set up new machinery, troubleshoot, and evaluate machine breakdowns. Spec new equipment, obtain quotes, and assist with the purchasing process. Assist instructors in budget and curriculum development and coordinating vendors and tours. Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction. Other duties as assigned.
Job Description
• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment.
• Repair and service machinery and equipment. Repair and service skills will include mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic repairs, fabrication and welding, robotic and machining during repair of approximately 50 weld booths and various other industrial maintenance and Fab Lab lab equipment. Change blades and bearings on saws as needed.
• Perform Preventive Maintenance on Weld, Maintenance and Fab Lab Equipment including Fiber Laser, Robots, CNC Forming and Milling equipment, Shear, Laser Cutter, 3D Printers, and Vinyl Cutter.
• Perform and schedule routine maintenance and inspection on Forklifts and Overhead Crane.  
• Fabrication of fixturing, tables, racking and tool hangers.  
• Monitor and perform servicing on all machinery and the documentation required. 
Instruction/Student Success
• Provide student reinforcement training and individualized assistance to students in mastering welding, laser cutting, robotics, and fabrication techniques in the Weld Lab.
• Provide student reinforcement training and individualized assistance to students in mastering hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, pumps and motors, and layout and rigging techniques in the Maintenance Lab.
• Provide student reinforcement training and individualized assistance to students in mastering Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, designing, and CNC milling in the Fab Lab.
• Reinforce proper techniques in welder set up and production, machine repair and troubleshooting, and inspection of final products.   
• Develop user manuals for Fab Lab equipment use and assist Mechanical Design and other program students with equipment operation. 
• Assist faculty with scheduling student equipment needs for students engaged in Competency Based learning. 
• Promote a learning atmosphere in the lab by encouraging effective work habits with students by coaching and correcting assignments and serving as a resource person for the students. 
• Redesigning and modifying of machinery and equipment to accommodate special needs students and also the changing needs of the welding, industrial maintenance, and Mechanical Design and Engineering programs. 
• Ensure that safety is maintained and followed in the labs at all times.
• Support welding, fabrication, and industrial maintenance instruction in the online environment by creating, posting, editing and managing curriculum files and other learning materials and working with various online software applications.
• Order lab supplies and material, and machine repair parts.
• Primary contact person for purchase of all new machines and equipment and disposal of equipment. 
• Set-up of new machinery. 
• Provide support of the Miller Electric Welding contract by conducting annual review and maintenance of 75 welders at LTC and 13 welders at Kiel High School as well as coordination of the change over every 3 years.  
• Receive in all deliveries including unloading trucks and placing materials in the appropriate storage areas.  
• Maintain inventory of supplies and order as needed. 
• Assist faculty and Dean with equipment and consumable budgeting process. 
Recruitment/Community Service
• Provide support by coordinating with vendors, other technical colleges, college recruitment team, and advisors by conducting tours of instructional labs. 
• Conduct and coordinate hands-on activities for events to market manufacturing programs. 
• Provide information to visitors and guests. 
• Attend workshops/seminars and advisory committee meetings.
• Provide support to the Mobile Manufacturing Lab including maintenance, set up, tear down and staffing. 
• Assist with Sheboygan County Project Grill by being the liaison to LTC and manufacturing support needs the High Schools may have. 
• Support the college by assisting with community service requests.  
AWS ATF Testing Facility and Certification
• Ensure NC3 certification kits are maintained, and order parts as needed. 
• Maintain documentation of maintenance and repairs to welders and test equipment. 
• Maintain documentation of purchases of ATF materials, equipment and consumables. 
• Coordinate calibration of inspection equipment and welding equipment along with the documentation required.
• Maintain inventory and traceability of ATF test materials and consumables including heat numbers of test plates, steel mill reports, and filler materials.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required as well as graduate of Welding, or Maintenance Mechanic program.
• Minimum of eight years recent occupational experience in a manufacturing environment. 
• FANUC Robotic certification preferred. CWI and/or CWE preferred.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Solidworks desired. 
• Strong preference for previous experience teaching or instructional assistance in an open lab environment.
• Ability to operate and repair specific equipment or tools (e.g., forklift operation on campus, FANUC robots, Fiber Lasers, Welders).

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students, and people of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
• Fluent, bilingual individual is beneficial.
