About Camp Y-Koda

Camp Y-Koda is an 80 acre camp located just west of Sheboygan Falls bordered by the Sheboygan River to the north and east. The camp was founded in 1969 by the Sheboygan County YMCA and has been offering summer camp experiences ever since. Camp Y-Koda features a beautiful stretch of the Sheboygan River for canoeing, kayaking, tubing and nature studies. The property has a low and high ropes course complete with a zip line and forty foot climbing wall. Camp also features a swimming pool, four acre lake, bb gun and archery ranges, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground, soccer field, a camp store and more. There are two lodges at our camp and four campsites with cabins.

About this Role
The Assistant Summer Camp Director is the real MVP of our summer camp program! The Director assists our Summer Camp Director and team members with daily operations, planning & preparing daily snacks & meals, promoting camp on social media, organizing and maintaining our camp store, assist staff on off-site field trips, and more!
The director serves as a leader, role model and educator and participates in the overall summer camp program. The Assistant Director will provide the Summer Camp Director with assistance in the creation and implementation of camp activities, discipline policies, administrative tasks, camp and childcare procedures. In addition, this role is responsible for preparing and maintaining program areas, confidential documents and information, leading local off-site trips, serving as a back-up camp counselor and filling in as the Summer Camp Director in the event of their absence.

$400 per week, from June 15 - August 28, 2020
Pre-camp training is paid hourly.
Work Schedule
  • June 15, 2020 - August 28, 2020
  • Monday-Fridays; 8:00am - 4:30pm each day
  • Occasional weekly duties beginning at 7:15am and ending at 5:30pm
  • Weekly Thursday Parent Program & Overnight, which begins Thursday afternoon and into Friday's schedule
  • Occasional multiple overnights during the week
  • Pre-Camp Training Begins May 2020
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in opening or closing camp on a daily basis, including but not limited to: sign in/out procedures, payments and collections of camp dues, conflict resolution/damage control with campers/parents/guardians/others, inform parents of incidents, injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist in driving camp vans for any off-site camp trips and excursions and assisting on field trips.
  • Assist with social media profiles by promoting and marketing the summer camp program as well as informing the camp community with updates and announcements.
  • Maintain all lost and found items by monitoring inventory.
  • Maintaining and organizing all first aid equipment and camp supplies.
  • Plan and prepare daily snacks and weekly cookout meals for staff, which adhere to the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families in a timely fashion.
  • Supervise the camp store. Maintain a balanced budget by monitoring inventory, records of purchases, forecasting future needs and reporting any problems to the camp director.
  • Communicate and prepare shopping lists with camp directors.
  • Follow pool opening and closing procedures as stated in the YMCA Staff Manual and Lifeguard Certification Course. Remain on duty until relieved by another certified lifeguard.

Experience, Education and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Coursework and/or previous experience in Childhood Education, childcare, camp setting or a related field is preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED and Lifeguarding Certification are required for this role, however it is obtainable at staff training.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other programs.
  • Experience creating announcements and working with social media outlets is preferred.
  • Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative, with the ability to work accurately at a fast pace.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, which include but not limited to: row boating, lawn games, building campfires, swimming, team building exercises, physical games and activities.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions such as rain and 70-90 degree weather.
** Camp Y-Koda is a summer day camp program, therefore camp does not provide room & board and transportation to/from camp each day.
