Salary Range: $20.27/hr.
Status: Full-time, Grant Funded through 12/31/2021 (benefit eligible)
 
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Sheboygan County is seeking a full-time Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator to carry out projects and events in support of its mission to raise awareness of invasive species and decrease their impacts in our county. The coordinator will be responsible for education and outreach throughout the county as well as mapping, planning, and control of AIS on a number of waterbodies within the county.
 
Sheboygan County seeks to protect the native ecosystems within its county by decreasing the impacts of invasive species, preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species, managing invasive species, using appropriate and effective control methods, sharing resources, and building partnerships to leverage the resources in our community.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Presenting invasive species education and outreach information at local meetings, conferences and whenever requested. Coordinating and hosting field events to carry out invasive species plant removal with volunteers and staff from multiple agencies. Consulting with landowners seeking assistance with invasive plant management and habitat restoration. Organizing and hosting workshops on invasive plant management for regional stakeholder groups. Training and supervising volunteers and interns in invasive plant removal and basic mapping techniques. Training and supervising one Clean Boats, Clean Waters intern annually. Maintaining appropriate records and budgets for deliverables tracking and reporting activities and results to funding agencies and partner organizations. Maintaining and updated the invasive species page on the Sheboygan County website. Regular interaction with supervisor to resolve any issues or questions relating to invasive species education or control in Sheboygan County.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources or related field preferred. Two years of work experience/service in natural resource management desired. Strong initiative and self-motivation to work independently and productively without day-to-day direct supervision. Strong written and verbal communication and networking skills. Ability and attitude necessary to work with staff and volunteers effectively in a respectful and positive manner. Ability to coordinate and supervise volunteers and interns. Familiarity with local flora and fauna, including field identification skills and invasive species life history and control measures. Opportunities for improving these skills will be provided. Experience in physically demanding field environments; candidates should be capable of carrying a 50lb backpack for several hours in rough terrain and potentially inclement weather. Strong organization skills. The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is insured and potentially available for work related travel.The successful candidate will need to acquire a Pesticide Applicator Certification.
