School Nurse

1.     Must be licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
2.     Must take or have taken a DPI (Department of Public Instruction) approved course in public community health and be a licensed registered nurse through the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
3.     Must hold a current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
4.     Experience in working with children who have special needs.
5.     Knowledge of the control of communicable disease, including COVID, in accordance with State and local mandates.
6.     Experience in working with patients needing catheterization, seizure disorder, g-tube feedings, and diabetic care.
7.     Ability to educate, instruct, and delegate nursing tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel in the school setting.
8.     Must hold a valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license with a good driving record. Employment is contingent upon District’s insurance carrier approving insurability due to past and future driving records. Must provide own vehicle and be able to travel between multiple buildings.
9.     Must be flexible and reliable.
The position will involve 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for 195 days per school year.
The school nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by preventing, modifying, or removing health-related barriers to learning in individual students and promotes an optimal level of wellness for students and staff. This nurse assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and/or referral activities. This nurse will need to show organization, prioritization, protocol development, project management, and/or case management. He/she acts as a link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care for students, parents, staff, and others concerning health-related issues. The school nurse upholds professional standards, the State Nurse Practice Act, as well as other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice. This nurse will adhere to district policies and administrative guidelines.
