About Us

American Excelsior Company dates its original roots back to Sheboygan County and Incorporated in 1888 as the Excelsior Wrapper Company. We started as a manufacture of excelsior wood packaging pads used for protection and other uses for the furniture industries. Over the next century, American Excelsior Company grew into many different markets and added newer innovative products such as the introduction of foam rubber in the 1930s. Plastic foam packaging products were added in the 1950s and the company added fabrication of foam rubber for furniture and packaging to their processes. American Excelsior Company also invented what we know today as the erosion control blanket which is manufactured from excelsior fibers and made into a blanket used for seeding and establishing vegetation on slopes. This is still widely used today on highways and construction projects. American Excelsior Company is the largest producer of excelsior erosion blankets and sediment devices in the country.
Today, American Excelsior Company is a leader in flexible foam products and erosion control sediment devices, with 7 manufacturing plants in the U.S. and corporate offices located in Arlington, Texas.
