About Us

The Sheboygan County Historical Society's mission is to Collect, Preserve, and Educate on the history of Sheboygan County. We maintain a collection of over 35,000 artifacts on our six-building campus that includes our Main Museum, the 1852 Taylor House, 1864 Weinhold Log Cabin, 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory, 1890's Schuchardt Barn and the Calvin Wheeler Exhibit Restoration Center. Our exhibits include Native American History, early trades and occupations, maritime and railroad history, Sheboygan circus history, sports and entertainment history as well as Victorian Era, pioneer life and agricultural history. We also have a yearly seasonal exhibit and showcase our Holiday Memories Exhibit during December that highlights the animated characters that once adorned the sidewalk windows of the H.C. Prange's Department Store in downtown Sheboygan.

As well as maintaining the museum, the Historical Society also provides public programming on the history of Sheboygan County including historic neighborhood walks, Historic Homes Tours and Cemetery Walks. We also provide educational programming for the County's second through fifth grade elementary school students at the museum that both match area school district curriculums and achieves several Social Studies and Language Arts State Standards.

Our Museum Store offers items ranging from books on local and state history as well as Sheboygan County items and some local food and drink products. Our children's area offers educational books, historic toys and other items for our youngest visitors.
