Betsy Alles (920) 395-8700FOCAL POINT: Innovation From Within
You don't have to start your own business to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs within a company, known as intrapreneurs, can take your organization to the next level with their innovation, creativity and determination.
At the September Focal Point, Ryan Kauth, director of the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center, and Colleen Merrill, director of the UW-Oshkosh Small Business Development Center, will co-facilitate this workshop on intrapreneurship.
Ryan will begin the workshop with a look into the inner workings of an intrapreneur, the value these individuals bring to their organizations and how you can unleash the intrapreneur within you to help build your personal brand value.
Colleen will share how to use intrapreneurs to bring success to your organization, including how to motivate your team, power words to get your team thinking and how to work together.
About the facilitators:
Colleen Merrill is no stranger to small business ownership and management. Her family has roots in mechanical contracting and she currently owns and operates Oshkosh’s first co-working space along with a rental properties management business. Having that essential, in-the-trenches understanding of the challenges and needs of small business is integral to her role as director of the UW-Oshkosh Small Business Development Center.
Overseeing seven counties as director of the SBDC, she develops strong collaborative teams that tackle issues businesses struggle with. Additionally, Colleen saw a need to focus efforts for entrepreneurs on the UW-Oshkosh campus. Formed as an evening grassroots effort, the entrepreneurial community came alive when she formed the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation within the College of Business and the SBDC. Multiple donation pledges from private companies that will bring in over $1,000,000 for the next ten years and a WEDC first year grant of $97,000, allowed for amazing growth and reach to the campus community, along with naming rights. The Alta Resources Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation created an accelerator program, launched multiple student led businesses, and plans on including an incubator for the summer of 2015.
Merrill earned both her B.B.A in Finance and her MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she currently sits on the alumni board of directors. Other committees include New North Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, President Elect for Women in Management, Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club, Outagamie County Economic Development Committee and multiple others.Date and Time
