Every day, over 3500 people start misusing opioids. More Americans now die every year from drug overdoses than they do in car crashes. President Obama recently proposed $1.1 billion in funding to address prescription opioid abuse and heroin epidemic.
Join our First Friday Forum, where we'll discuss the nationwide issue of opioid misuse, then zone in on what's happening in Sheboygan County.
Christopher Domagalski, Chief of Police, Sheboygan Police Department. Chief Domagalski was sworn in as Sheboygan?s Police Chief on January 18, 2010. Prior to his appointment he spent 18 years with the Milwaukee Police Department. He has a Bachelor?s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and is currently completing graduate studies at Marquette University.
Sheboygan County Sheriff Todd Priebe - Has 25 years of policing experience starting in Dallas, TX, as a patrol officer. He then returned to his hometown of Sheboygan in August,1992. In 1996, Todd began developing his strength in community policing when he was assigned to Sheboygan Police Department?s Community Policing Unit. He was elected Sheriff in 2010, and re-elected in 2014.
Dr. Steven Santino attended the University of Missouri, where he obtained his MD degree. He specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation during his residency in St. Louis. He also holds a PhD in chemistry from Northern IL University in DeKalb, IL. Besides treating rehab patients with a holistic approach, he saw a growing demand in the community for treatment of opiate/heroin abuse and became a certified prescriber of Suboxone. One particular area of interest is blending traditional and complementary medicine in the current epidemic of opiate/heroin addiction.
