STC Presents Modern Musical "Alice by Heart"

A curious and tragic tale of love comes to life on stage this Valentine's Day!

SHEBOYGAN, WI--January XX, 2025--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater celebrating its 91st Season, is proud to announce its upcoming production of “Alice by Heart,” a poignant and imaginative musical set against the backdrop of World War II. Directed and choreographed by the acclaimed Doug Clemons, with musical direction by Tom Kamenick, this enchanting show will open on February 14, 2025, at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, located within Horace Mann Middle School.

We can’t wait to share this deeply moving experience with our community.”

“Alice by Heart” invites audiences on a journey through the rubble of the London Blitz, where teenager Alice Spencer’s life is upended as she and her close friend Alfred seek refuge in an underground tube station. When Alfred becomes gravely ill and is quarantined, Alice encourages him to escape with her into the pages of their beloved book and revisit the whimsical world of Wonderland. Together, they rediscover the bittersweet beauty of first love, navigate the struggles of loss, and find the courage to embrace the future.

Doug Clemons, an esteemed actor, director, and writer, brings a wealth of experience to this production. His career spans performances and directorial work at renowned theaters across Wisconsin and beyond, including Northern Sky Theater, Skylight Music Theater, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, and First Stage. Doug’s regional credits include appearances at the New York Musical Theater Festival and Chicago Musical Theater Festival, as well as backup vocals for Michael Bublé. "To me, Alice by Heart is all about our relationship with our own imagination,” Clemons said. “When do we need it most? Are there times when reality is more pleasant (or more terrifying) than what goes on in our heads? This show makes us face the fact that it's not about the stories we tell, it's who we tell them to and why we tell them.”
