STC Announces Open Auditions for Resident Alien

Sheboygan Theatre Company’s Studio Players blends Kierkegaard with cheese doodles to deliver hilarious culture clash comedy.

SHEBOYGAN, WI--September XX, 2024--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater celebrating its 91st Season, announced today that its Studio Players group will hold in-person auditions for their upcoming production of “Resident Alien,” to be directed by Michael Daehn on September 16 & 17, 2024 at 3330 Stahl Rd Sheboygan WI.

“We're incredibly excited to open auditions for 'Resident Alien,' a comedy that promises to challenge and delight both performers and audiences alike, said STC Executive Director Tricia Roberts. “This show offers actors a rare opportunity to dive into roles that blend intellectual depth with pure comedic absurdity. I can’t wait to see what this group will do with this challenging and thoroughly entertaining material.”

Resident Alien is a comedy about Michael, a Kierkegaard-quoting intellectual in small-town Wisconsin, who doesn't know what to do about the “AWOL alien busboy” who has decided to spend his shore leave in Michael's living room watching reality TV and eating Cheese Doodles.

“What I love most about Resident Alien by Stuart Spencer is the way that the comedy holds up a mirror to the basic decency and goodness of people from Wisconsin, as seen through the eyes of an ultimate outsider from somewhere out there in space,” Daehn said.

Daehn is a longtime director, educator on the college and high school levels, and national arts advocate. He was most recently the Directing, Acting, and Theatre Education Professor at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He is a member of the Educational Theatre Association’s Hall of Fame and a recipient of their esteemed Founder’s Award. This will be his 190th production as a director.

STC encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to audition for the production. Auditionees will be asked to tell a joke and a funny story using a thick Wisconsin dialect and to do cold readings from the script. Auditions will be in 2 groups each night. Group one starts at 6 pm and group 2 starts at 7 pm. No prepared monologues are required.

The production will be staged at Blue Harbor Resort Lakeview Room, 725 Blue Harbor Dr, Sheboygan, WI 53081, from October 31 to November 3, 2024. To sign up for auditions call 920-459-3773 or use this Sign Up Genius.
