RTSC will use these funds to make home repairs, focusing on households of those adults aged 50+. The nonprofit will also reach out to homeowners through a series of talks focused on home ownership, home safety, home maintenance, and services RTSC is able to provide. The home ownership segment will focus on situations to avoid based on interactions RTSC has had with previous clients. The home safety segment will go through a checklist of safety items and safety modifications to consider for older adults. The home maintenance segment will go through a seasonal checklist of items that should be attended to each year. Talks will highlight where RTSC can assist and other available community resources.
Dates and times of the talks are as follows:
While talks are targeted at adults 50+, anyone is welcome to attend. Attendees will receive the safety checklist as well as a HomeFit guide provided by AARP.
RTSC regularly receives applications from homeowners who live in conditions many could not imagine, and who often face challenges that prevent them from being able to tackle them alone. “We are dedicated to serving as many neighbors in need as possible every year,” states Bob Wells, Board President. Repairs are completed year-round on a project basis depending on available funding, volunteers and weather conditions. Repairs are tailored according to each needs, and homeowner’s needs by volunteers who are supported by skilled tradespeople and project managers. Repairs mitigate the side effects of unsafe housing -- sickness, injury, isolation, and hopelessness.
