STC Presents "Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST"

Join us for a one-day-only celebration of musical theater with a twist this Independence Day

SHEBOYGAN, WI--June 13, 2025--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater preparing to launch its 92nd Season, is excited to present "Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST," sponsored by Visit Sheboygan, directed by Abi Charbonneau. This high-energy, gender-bending, role-reversing performance takes place July 4th at 11:30 AM at the Band Shell in Fountain Park, preceding the parade.

"We're delighted to celebrate Independence Day with this unique theatrical experience that truly embodies freedom of expression," said Executive Director Tricia Roberts. "This production celebrates breaking boundaries and showcases the joy of artistic exploration. Our talented cast of 16 performers will create a vibrant, high-energy experience that turns tradition on its head while reminding us all that theater is about possibility and imagination."

"Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST" is a one-morning-only celebration of musical theater where anyone can play anything. This patriotic twist on the popular miscast concept features iconic numbers from past STC favorites like Mary Poppins and Legally Blonde, plus sneak previews from the upcoming season, including Mamma Mia!

The 16-member cast will tackle roles they'd never traditionally be cast in, creating a morning of surprises, laughter, and exceptional entertainment before the community gathers for the traditional Fourth of July parade.

Abi Charbonneau is a Midwest-born theater artist and choreographer based in the greater Milwaukee area. With five years of bi-coastal educational residences, Abi has collaborated with organizations including the New York City Ballet, Theatre Aspen, Brooklyn Acting Lab, and Theater for Young Audiences and is part of the educational team for First Stage in Milwaukee and the Disney Musicals in Schools program at the Overture Center. She is also the founder of the Emerging Artist Project, an in-school theater residency program providing accessible theater workshops to students in K-12th grade settings in the greater Sheboygan County area.

"There's something magical about watching performers step outside their comfort zones and embrace roles they've always dreamed of playing," Charbonneau said. "This miscast celebration is all about artistic freedom and the joy of performance. It's bold and exciting, full of surprises and heart, and perfectly captures the spirit of independence we celebrate on the Fourth of July. What better way to kick off our community's Independence Day celebration than with a show that celebrates artistic freedom?"
