Seasonal Groundskeeper

The Seasonal Groundskeeper provides a positive transformative visitor experience by assisting with the installation and maintenance of new + existing gardens and grounds areas. This position mainly supports the Horticulture staff in maintaining lawns, edging, and fertilizing as well as performing general landscaping and grounds maintenance. The Groundskeeper is expected to work independently and with other staff members. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Work and area assignments will change during the season as needed.

Duties:
? Perform general landscape maintenance including planting and transplanting, pruning trees and shrubs, watering, mulching, mowing, raking, digging, weeding, fertilizing, deadheading, and edging. ? Perform general grounds maintenance such as picking up trash and compost, removing refuse, tidying up tool and equipment storage areas, cleaning paths, and sharpening and maintaining tools and equipment. ? Work independently with gardening safety and best practices in mind while being productive and making efficient use of time. ? Safely operate small equipment such as golf carts, leaf blowers, mowers, chainsaws, rototillers, and weed-eaters. ? Assist the department with support for special events and other projects as needed. ? Report any tool or equipment problems. ? Keep tools, supplies, vehicles, and work areas clean and organized. ? Assist indoors with projects such as equipment maintenance, shop organization, and greenhouse work when weather prohibits outdoor work. ? Interact daily with staff, volunteers, and the public in a friendly and respectful manner. ? Maintain a positive attitude to foster a productive and welcoming environment for staff and guests. ? Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
? Ability to utilize garden tools and perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions ? Regularly lift 35 to 50 pounds ? Prior Horticulture/Gardening experience ? Maintain a positive attitude to foster a productive and welcoming environment for staff and guests ? Ability to related to, work with, and manage people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities ? Educational and/or work experience in horticultural with in-depth knowledge of plant culture, maintenance, and identification.
Availability: (May – October): on average 25-40 hours per week with occasional evening and must include occasional weekend availability.
