STC Offers Workshop on the Power of Shakespeare

Learn to connect movement and meaning through Shakespeare’s language.

SHEBOYGAN, WI--January 26, 2026--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater celebrating its 92nd Season, will host a special theatre workshop on Saturday, January 31, 2026, focused on unlocking the musicality, rhythm, and enduring relevance of Shakespeare’s work. The workshop, STC Embodying Creativity: The Language of Shakespeare, will take place at 3330 Stahl Road in Sheboygan and features two 90-minute sessions, one for youth and another for adult participants.

Led by actor, director, playwright, and choreographer Ryan Schabach, the workshop invites participants to explore Shakespeare not as distant literature, but as living, physical storytelling rooted in the human experience.

“Shakespeare can feel intimidating at first, but when actors understand how the language moves, breathes, and connects to emotion, it becomes incredibly accessible,” said Tricia Roberts, STC Executive Director. “Ryan brings a deep understanding of classical text and a passion for helping performers find confidence and clarity in their work.”

Through the study of meter, rhythm, and vocal expression, participants will learn how to analyze, speak, hear, and physicalize Shakespeare’s text. The workshop emphasizes recognizing recurring themes and techniques while building confidence for readers, performers, and audience members alike.

The youth session, Shakespeare: Words in Motion, is open to ages 11 to 15 and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This class focuses on bringing Shakespeare’s language to life through movement, sound, and imaginative exploration. The cost to attend is $20.

The adult session, Shakespeare: Here & Now, is open to ages 16 and older and will take place from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Participants will explore how Shakespeare’s work continues to resonate today while developing tools for confident text analysis and performance. The cost to attend is $30.

Ryan Schabach’s career spans acting, directing, playwriting, and choreography on stages nationwide. His recent directing credits include The Foreigner and The Trip to Bountiful at Unity Theatre in Brenham, Texas. As a performer, he appeared in Wisconsin this past summer in Three Viewings at Third Avenue PlayWorks and in repertory at Door Shakespeare in Great Expectations and Twelfth Night. A Wisconsin native, Schabach studied Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and holds an MFA in Classical Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he later served as an Emerging Artist with Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
