STC Seeking Actors for Young Frankenstein The community is invited to audition for the outrageous musical comedy. SHEBOYGAN, WI--July 15, 2025--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater preparing to launch its 92nd Season, announced today that auditions are now open for Young Frankenstein, a hilarious musical comedy by Mel Brooks and the first Main Stage show of the 2025–2026 season. Directed by Lorenz “Larry” Marcus, this production promises quirky characters, bold energy, and non-stop laughs. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6, at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, located inside Horace Mann Middle School at 2820 Union Ave in Sheboygan. Callbacks will take place on Thursday, August 7. “If you’re 17 or older and drawn to fast-paced comedy, over-the-top characters, and a script that never takes itself too seriously, we’d love you to come out and audition for this show,” said STC Executive Director Tricia Roberts. “This production thrives on offbeat energy and big personalities, and it’s a great opportunity for performers to have a blast on stage.” Based on the cult-classic film by Mel Brooks, Young Frankenstein follows the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, who reluctantly inherits his infamous grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. With help from his loyal hunchbacked sidekick Igor, the beautiful lab assistant Inga, and the mysterious housekeeper Frau Blücher, Frederick attempts to finish his grandfather’s experiments—with hilarious and monstrous results. Rated PG-13 for mature humor and innuendo, the show offers juicy roles and plenty of ensemble moments. Marcus brings more than 27 years of experience in directing, performing, and teaching in both community and professional theater to the production. His past directing credits include Drinking Habits, Mamma Mia, Shrek, The Wizard of Oz, and many more. In addition to his work in the arts, Marcus serves as a Director of IT, combining creativity and problem-solving across both fields. “I’ve always been drawn to stories that mix heart with absurdity, and Young Frankenstein strikes that perfect balance between big laughs and genuine affection for the genre,” Marcus said. “It’s a celebration of the weird, the sassy, and the beautifully over-the-top world of classic horror. Plus Mel Brooks is kind of a big deal!” Auditions are open to actors and actresses ages 17 and up (those under 18 must have parental permission). Participants should prepare 16–32 measures of a musical theater song that is not from Young Frankenstein and wear clothes they can move in for a brief dance call. An accompanist will be provided, and tracks are also welcome. To sign up, visit https://www.stcshows.org or call the Sheboygan Community Recreation Department at (920) 459-3773.
