Lakeshore College faculty release new books

CLEVELAND, WI – Lakeshore College faculty members are making their mark beyond the classroom with the release of two new books. Communications Faculty Dr. Emilie Lindemann recently published “Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants,” and Machining Faculty Mark Lorier authored “Blueprint Reading.” Both titles are now available online.

“Lakeshore College is excited to congratulate Emilie Lindemann and Mark Lorier regarding the release of their new books,” said Lakeshore College’s Vice President of Instruction Dr. Meredith Sauer. “Having their work published is a huge accomplishment and speaks to the caliber of expertise they bring to their respective fields and the classroom. We are glad to have Emilie and Mark among our dedicated and experienced faculty members at Lakeshore.”

Dr. Emilie Lindemann
Fresh Water Press, located in Two Rivers, published its first book of 2025, “Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants” by Lindemann on June 25. The chapbook, a small paperback booklet containing poetry, explores the distortion of time during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period that followed. In 2020, the liberal arts college where Lindemann had worked for 10 years closed its doors. Following this transition, Lindemann shared she felt stuck.

“That first full-time job felt like ‘home’ to me, and I feel like for academics or anyone working in higher ed, our jobs are often tied very closely to our sense of identity,” Lindemann explained. “These poems aren't just about feelings of loneliness, though. They are also about experiencing connection in nature, finding comfort in dreaming and creativity, and daring to wear an ‘out there’ pair of electric purple pants to remind yourself that you are still here.”

In addition to her role at Lakeshore, Lindemann also serves as poetry editor for Stoneboat Literary Journal. She has authored “mother-mailbox” and several chapbooks.

Mark Lorier
WisTech Open, the Wisconsin Technical College System’s hub for openly licensed educational resources, published “Blueprint Reading“ by Lorier earlier this month. The digital resource is a free, practical and accessible textbook designed to introduce students to the essential skills of interpreting engineering and architectural drawings.

“Blueprint reading is more than just understanding drawings — it’s about helping students build confidence in a skill that opens the door to so many careers,” said Lorier. “This book was created to be clear, approachable and aligned with the kinds of work students will actually do.”

Peer reviewers of the first edition of this textbook included faculty experts from Wisconsin technical colleges. Among them were the following Lakeshore employees:

  • Richard Pfister, Machinist/Tool & Die Apprenticeship Faculty
  • Peter Rathsack, CNC Programming Faculty
  • Matthew Roskopf, Electro-Mechanical Automation/Maintenance Faculty
“Blueprint Reading” is available now and can be accessed at wistechopen.org.
