The GameBoard Supports the SPARK! Program

Lynn Potyen supports event for people and families living with memory loss.

SHEBOYGAN, WI — October 27, 2025 — The GameBoard, the innovative game store in Sheboygan, WI, that’s changing the way you think about playing games, is proud to partner with the Manitowoc County Historical Society for its SPARK! program on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The SPARK! program provides interactive, engaging experiences for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss, along with their care partners.

“Games have an extraordinary ability to bring people together,” said Lynn Potyen, owner of The GameBoard. “Whether we’re children or older adults, play reminds us of who we are. It opens the door to conversation, creativity, and connection. I’m honored to help share that experience through the SPARK! Program.”

The SPARK! program at the Manitowoc County Historical Society is part of a regional network of cultural institutions offering free monthly programs that encourage engagement and socialization for individuals living with memory loss. Each session combines history, art, and hands-on activities that stimulate conversation and create meaningful moments.

“SPARK! is all about creating moments of connection through shared experiences,” said Devinne Lutz, Engagement Manager at the Manitowoc County Historical Society. “We’re thrilled to welcome Lynn and The GameBoard to bring the joy of play into this program. Activities like these encourage laughter, memory, and conversation-helping participants connect not only with history, but with each other.”

During this special session, Potyen, a longtime advocate for the social and cognitive benefits of play, will lead participants in a series of inclusive, easy-to-learn games designed to inspire connection, laughter, and joy.

About The GameBoard

The GameBoard was founded in 2006 by Lynn Potyen, an award-winning proprietor, after her son was diagnosed with a severe speech delay. Through his journey, she was able to connect his therapy to the games they played at home. Since then, studies have shown that playing games together enhances creativity, fosters communication and socialization, and builds emotional skills and cognitive learning ability. Potyen is an outspoken advocate for using board games in education, therapy, and corporate team building. Her story is archived in the Library of Congress and in the 2023 book “What Board Games Mean to Me,” where she is part of an anthology featuring 28 voices from around the world.
